"When your spirit is floating down that tunnel towards the light, you know what's behind the light? It's not God, it's me. And I'm gonna kick your poncy soul all the way back down the tunnel till you choke on your own fucked up ribs. NOW, WAKE THE FUCK UP!" - Caspa & Rusko - Cockney ThugFirst of all, I know very little about dubstep. I have heard it around, and downloaded the dubstep essential mix the BBC broadcasted a few years back, which I enjoyed, but never really went out of my way to seek out the sound. However, when Fabric had Caspa & Rusko do Fabriclive.37, I booed. Not because I hate Caspa & Rusko, I had no idea who the hell they were. But it was supposed to be Justice, in what might have been the most anticipated Fabric release of all time. On top of that, Justice had never released a proper mix cd. But there was a problem with Justice's mix, and blah blah blah it was never released (although you can find the unreleased mix here). Anyways, Fabric had to find a replacement fast and came up with Caspa & Rusko. After all this, I never had any intentions of listening to their mix ever, and was just going to wait until they released the Justice mix as say Fabriclive.42. But I read a review of the mix in Mixmag, and they described it as a dark mix with gangsta movie samples dropped in. Well, I can go for a bit of that. So I listened to the mix, and that is a pretty accurate description. I also realized that I had heard Caspa & Rusko before, despite never actually knowing it was them. They produced a track called "Cockney Thug" which I downloaded after reading a review of. The actual song doesn't do it for me so much, but that is an excellent sample from what sounds like a Guy Ritchie movie, and me like Guy Richie movies (it's actually from an Armando Iannucci show, apparently). The mix itself is a pleasant surprise, especially for someone who doesn't really listen to any dupstep. It's really loud and rude and dark and the bass just reverberates for an hour. My favorite part of the mix are tracks 19-21, when the mix peaks in intensity and goes absolutely bananas with samples like "Look in my fucking eyes" and "Blow you into kingdom come." I would say that I would have not enjoyed this mix half as much if it didn't have the gangsta-movie samples. Towards the end, where I started giving out 1 star tracks, it is because the mix totally changes up from dubstep to like inspiration dub, and after an hour of retarded bass, I was just not ready for that. But I would say that this is a very enjoyable mix for myself, although I don't really have any other dubstep experiences to compare it to. Its not so great that I consider myself some dubstep-devote now, but I have been going back to it over the last week. And I break it down song by song:

This mix is absolutely amazing. I like it because it steadily gets heavier and the end just tapers of smoothly. I listen to this a lot for my workout sessions.
oy mate... you must be nuts if you think a justice mix is worth shit compared to these mad track slingers here... i'd love to see justice try and mix in half the tracks caspa and rusko did there, in one take, all dubplate madness
Justice and Caspa & Rusko? Not even in the same league. Caspa & Rusko are some of the best DJs at the moment, I was so happy when they were chosen for Fabriclive, this is a proper sick mix.
